Frequently asked questions

Is the resume builder really free?

Yes. You can build, edit and download a resume without paying. VeloApply's paid plans add the auto-apply and screening-question features on top, but the resume builder itself is free to use.

Are the resumes ATS-friendly?

Yes. The templates use clean, single-column-friendly structures and standard section headings that applicant tracking systems can parse, so your resume is read correctly rather than scrambled.

Can I use it for any industry?

Yes. The builder is not tech-specific. The structure works for nursing, finance, teaching, marketing, the trades and any other field. You decide which experience to emphasise for your target role.

Does it store my data?

Your resume content is yours to edit and remove. The builder is designed so you stay in control of your information, and nothing is submitted anywhere without you choosing to.

How is this different from just using a Word template?

A Word template gives you a layout. This builder also keeps your structure ATS-friendly, lets you tailor quickly per role, and connects to VeloApply's job tools if you later want to apply faster.

What makes a resume work in 2026

Most hiring processes read your resume twice: once by software that pulls it into structured fields, and once by a person who skims it for a few seconds before deciding whether to keep reading. A resume has to survive both, and the two are not in conflict. Clean structure helps the parser, and it also helps the human find what they need quickly.

Structure that holds up

A single column, standard section headings, and reverse chronological order handle the vast majority of situations. Contact details go at the top as plain text rather than inside a header. Skills belong in their own section so they are easy to find, and each role should carry a few bullets that describe outcomes rather than duties.

Keep it to one page early in your career and two pages once you have enough relevant experience to justify it. Length is not a virtue in either direction.

Writing bullets that say something

The test for every bullet is whether a peer in the same role could have written it about themselves. If they could, it is a job description, not an achievement. Add what changed because you were there: what you built, what improved, what you were trusted with, or what scale you handled.

One resume or several?

Keep one strong base resume and adjust the summary and the top bullets for each application. Building a brand new resume per role does not scale and rarely improves anything. What matters is that the top third of the page speaks to the role you are applying for right now, since that is the part that gets read.

Once your resume is ready, the repetitive part is copying it into every application form. That is what the extension handles, with your review before anything is submitted.
