What a strong social media manager resume looks like
A strong social media manager resume proves two things: you understand each platform's culture, and your content moves numbers that matter. Follower counts alone no longer impress anyone; engagement rate, video views, click-through, and revenue tied to social do. Name the platforms you ran, the posting cadence you held, and what changed: "grew TikTok from 12K to 120K followers in 14 months with a 4.8% engagement rate" tells a hiring manager exactly what they are buying.
Show range without looking scattered. Most brands need one person who can plan the calendar, shoot and edit short-form video, write captions with voice, answer comments fast, and read the analytics. Your resume should touch each of those muscles with at least one proof point. If you ran paid social too, say so plainly with budgets, since organic-plus-paid managers are hired faster than organic-only ones in 2026.

Key skills to include
- Short-form video production: Reels, TikToks, and Shorts drive most organic reach in 2026; shooting and editing ability is now core, not a bonus.
- Platform strategy: Knowing what works on TikTok vs Instagram vs Pinterest shows strategic thinking beyond just posting everywhere.
- Community management: Fast, on-brand replies turn followers into loyalists; response-time metrics prove you take this seriously.
- Content calendar planning: Consistent publishing at volume requires systems; mention your cadence and planning tools.
- UGC and creator programs: Sourcing creator content at scale shows you can feed the algorithm without blowing the budget.
- Paid social basics: Boosting winners and running retargeting proves you understand the full funnel, not just organic.
- Analytics and reporting: Translating dashboards into "post more of X, less of Y" is what separates managers from interns.
How to write each section
Summary
Lead with years, brand types, total audience grown, and engagement rate. "Grew 40K to 310K followers at 4.8% engagement" is a complete pitch in one line. Add one revenue or conversion proof so the reader sees business impact, not just popularity.
Experience
For each role, name the platforms, your posting cadence, and the results: growth, engagement, views, revenue. Give your best-performing content its own bullet with the view count. Start bullets with active verbs: grew, produced, launched, cut, built. Keep internships to 2 bullets; your current role earns 4.
Skills
List platforms first, then production tools, then management skills. Be specific: "TikTok & Reels strategy" beats "social media." Only claim platforms you have actually run for a brand; personal use does not count unless the account is large and relevant.
Education
One line for degree and school. Communications, marketing, and media degrees fit naturally. A Meta or Hootsuite certification is a fine one-line addition, but your metrics will always outweigh credentials on this resume.
ATS tips for social media manager resumes
- Spell out every platform. Write "TikTok," "Instagram Reels," and "YouTube Shorts" in full. Abbreviations like "IG" may not match recruiter keyword searches.
- Put numbers near the top. Parsers do not rank content, but human recruiters skim the first third of the page hardest; front-load your best metrics.
- Use the job posting's title language. "Community manager," "social media strategist," and "content creator" are different searches; mirror the posting's wording where honest.
- Link your portfolio as plain text. A simple URL like yoursite.social survives ATS exports better than hyperlinked anchor text.

Social media manager resume FAQs
What metrics should a social media manager put on a resume?
Prioritize engagement rate, follower growth, reach, video views, click-through rate, and any revenue or leads tied to social. Engagement rate matters more than raw follower counts because it shows your content actually resonates. Always pair growth numbers with the time period.
Should I list my personal social accounts on my resume?
Only if they are professional and relevant. A personal TikTok with 50K followers in your niche is strong proof of platform skill. A private Instagram with vacation photos adds nothing. When in doubt, link to a portfolio page with your best brand work instead.
How do I show results if I managed small accounts?
Small accounts can still show sharp results: engagement rate doubled, response time cut from hours to minutes, a campaign that outperformed benchmarks. Percentage improvements and before-and-after comparisons work at any scale.
Do I need design skills on a social media manager resume?
Basic design ability is now expected: Canva, CapCut, or native platform editors for quick-turn creative. You do not need to be a graphic designer, but showing you can produce scroll-stopping visuals without waiting on a design team is a real advantage.
How do I handle short-form video on my resume?
Name the formats and the results: Reels, TikToks, or Shorts produced per week, average views, and your best-performing video. Short-form video drives most organic reach in 2026, so even one strong example, like a video with 500K views, deserves its own bullet.
